Destin Fishing Rodeo 2026: Plan an October Stay at Destin West

EXPERIENCE THE DESTIN FISHING RODEO THIS OCTOBER WHILE STAYING AT DESTIN WEST.

October is one of the most exciting times to visit the Emerald Coast. Along with warm Gulf days, beautiful fall weather, and fewer summer crowds, the month brings one of Destin’s longest-running traditions — the Destin Fishing Rodeo. The 78th Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo runs October 1–31, 2026, giving visitors an entire month to experience the fishing culture that helped Destin earn its nickname, “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” The tradition dates back to 1948 and was eventually moved to October specifically to extend Destin’s visitor season beyond the summer months.

Watch the Daily Weigh-Ins!  You don’t have to be an angler to enjoy the Rodeo! One of the most popular experiences is watching the daily weigh-ins on the docks behind AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar on Destin Harbor. Weigh-ins take place every day from 10 AM to 7 PM and are free and open to the public. Bring the family and watch anglers arrive with everything from grouper and tuna to impressive gamefish. When a particularly big catch hits the scales, the docks can quickly fill with spectators. It’s a fun way to experience a little of Destin’s fishing heritage without ever stepping aboard a boat.

Want to Fish? You Can Join the Rodeo Too Vacationing anglers can participate in the action. Guests fishing aboard a registered Destin Fishing Rodeo charter or private boat can participate without an individual tournament entry fee. Kayak, paddleboard, pier, bridge, jetty, surf, and shoreline fishing categories are also available, although registration requirements vary by division. The competition includes daily, weekly, and overall prizes, with Junior, Teen, Ladies, and Senior divisions. According to the Rodeo, more than 30,000 anglers compete during October for over $100,000 in cash and prizes.

More Than Just Fishing The Rodeo calendar includes special events throughout October, making it fun even for guests who never cast a line. The **Destin 5K Rodeo Run** takes place October 4, beginning at Clement Taylor Park, while October 31 wraps up the month with **Halloween on the Harbor**, when captains, anglers, volunteers, and visitors celebrate along Destin Harbor in costume. Other October activities include the Kids Fall Movie Festival, Bruce Cheves Day, the Ringing of the Bell, and the Miss Destin Mingle.

Make Destin West Your October Home Base! After an afternoon watching the weigh-ins or exploring Destin Harbor, head back to Destin West Beach + Bay Resort for a little relaxation. Spend the rest of your day floating the Lazy River, lounging by the pool, soaking in a hot tub, or heading across to the Gulf for an evening walk along the beach. October offers a different side of the Emerald Coast. The summer rush has eased, but there is still plenty happening throughout Destin and Fort Walton Beach. Combine warm beach days, fewer crowds, fall festivals, local seafood, and the month-long Destin Fishing Rodeo, and you have plenty of reasons to plan an October getaway. 🎣 Come experience one of Destin’s favorite traditions and enjoy everything the Emerald Coast has to offer this fall.
